Local Farmer and Inventor Callum Wesley is to represent the Yilgarn Ag Society at the Rural Ambassador Awards. Callum was born in Merredin in October 1993 and spent his entire childhood in Southern Cross where his passion was for farming and belonging in the local community.
Primary school was Spent at Southern Cross DHS, which was then followed by five years of boarding
school at Mazenod College, Perth. A strong interest for football was played out at College level and has since continued in Southern cross when available.
Holidays away from College were spent working on the family farm as this was his passion and an escape from city chaos.
Since graduating from College he has completed a Certificate 4 in Small Business Management. This is to help achieve the desire to become a business owner himself in the future.
His interest in farming has had Callum developing a Patent Pending Invention which is utilised for compacting the soil between the rows of crops for water harvesting purposes. This has led Callum to his current position as Technical Officer with the Department of Agriculture where there is a collaboration between Dept of Ag and his Fathers farm to conduct research and development. His invention is believed to be ideally suited to low rainfall regions in the Eastern Wheatbelt and the first comprehensive trials are currently in progress.
Callum’s involvement in the rural community is something he thoroughly enjoys and we hope his ambitions continue.
